The NBA season is less than three weeks away from beginning and J.R. Smith has yet to sign a new contract. Everyone expects the Cleveland Cavaliers to retain the services of Smith, but both parties are far apart in contract talks. Smith wants $15 million per season. Cleveland only wants to offer $10-11 million.
LeBron James recently spoke out about frustration associated with the organization not getting the deal done yet. Smith plays a huge role on the team and adds another dynamic as a tremendous, but inconsistent scorer. The chances are the two sides will reach an agreement soon as Smith was happy in Cleveland and the team needs him.
