The Los Angeles Lakers traded 21 year old D’Angelo Russell to the Brooklyn Nets in a deal to clear up cap space and acquire former All-Star center Brook Lopez. Los Angeles packaged Russell and the expensive contract of Timofey Mozgov in exchange for Lopez and the 27th overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.
Both teams improve their goals with the trade. Brooklyn badly needs young assets with no upcoming lottery picks due to poor past trades. They get a young talented guard they can hope to build around.
Los Angeles will replace with Russell with Lonzo in the NBA Draft. Lopez will be a one year rental as they hope to sign a combination of LeBron James and Paul George within the next year with the upcoming cap space.
