The Orlando Magic have agreed to sign free agent Jonathon Simmons to a three-year contract worth $20 million. Simmons was renounced from the San Antonio Spurs. The decision to leave was a combination of wanting more money and the opportunity for more playing time.
Orlando is hoping to rebuild with new pieces and clearly needed a wing player. The contract for Simmons is rather modest given the big salaries given to role players. It is clearly worth the risk for a young team with cap space like the Magic. Simmons played the best basketball of his NBA career in the playoffs stepping up for an injured Kawhi Leonard.
