The Los Angeles Lakers called the New York Knicks to express their interest in a deal for shooting guard Iman Shumpert, according to Chris Broussard of ESPN. The Lakers are looking to bolster a backcourt that has been riddled with injury recently.
With Kobe Bryant playing the point guard position, Shumpert would slide right into the 2-spot. Shumpert would be able to take on some of the tougher backcourt assignments, easing Kobe’s workload on the defensive end.
On the big man side of things, Pau Gasol and Mike D’Antoni’s most recent friction has reignited the yearly Gasol trade talks. The Lakers may be interested in a Pau Gasol-for-Tyson Chandler trade.
Per the report, the Knicks, however, are not interested in trading Chandler, as he’s quite possibly their most important player right now. The Knicks have struggled mightily while Chandler remains out nursing that broken leg. Chandler would flourish in the pick-and-roll in D’Antoni’s offense and provide that defensive anchor.
